Monti, Monforte d'Alba
1999 Barolo "Bussia"
Good deep red. Aromatic nose combines plum, redcurrent, raspberry and nutry oak. Dense, firm and suave, with spicy redcurrant flavor and a layered texture.
At once thick andbright, thanks to a firm mineral underpinning and ripe integrated acids. Quite oaky, but it works. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length.
This will be the first Barolo release from Paolo Monti, until now better known for Barbera, a red blend that includes Merlot, and a white that combines Chardonnay and Riesling.
The Bussia spends its first year in all new barriques, then goes into 16-hectoliter French oaks for the second year.
